We couldn’t leave Paris without checking out the newest production of Crazy Horse. The burlesque show, which has occupied its spot on Avenue Georges V (right across from the Givenchy store) since 1951, has invited people like Dita Von Teese and Carmen Electra to participate in their cabaret show over the past few years, but the newest production features famous names behind the scenes: Christian Louboutin and Swizz Beatz. Louboutin’s elaborate, sky high heels have taken inspiration from showgirls for decades, as if he’s trying to give every woman a dancer’s legs, but Swizz? We weren’t quite sure how he fit into the picture until we hopped on the phone with him this morning. The record producer, DJ, and rapper just landed in London after accompanying his wife, Alicia Keys, on a tour of Paris Fashion Week. (His favorite part of the fashion circus was seeing her ever changing outfits). Turns out his involvement with Feu is thanks to Louboutin. “He was like, ‘Let’s go crazy in the Crazy Horse!’,” Beatz said. “I do the shoes, you do the music, it’s something that nobody would expect, but it’s like, ‘Wow Christian and Swizz getting crazy up in Crazy Horse!’”
Turns out the two have wanted to collaborate for a long time. “Christian is like a mentor to me, a brother, a friend,” Beatz said. “We’ve been talking about doing collaborations, other than fashion, for a while, and this was the perfect opportunity.” So while Louboutin whipped up towering heels, some with spikes, others with skulls and many with sparkles, Beatz got to work remixing the music. “There were definitely parts of the exising show that worked well,” he said. “I just wanted to make something that was unexpected, but still complementary to the Crazy Horse.” That means a seductive mirrored routine set to a slow version of Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” and a monk-like act set to haunting Russian notes. The finale, Beatz’ favorite act, features a song that pays tribute to its red soles by singing, “Louby, Louby.”
“It was an honor teaming up with a major icon like Christian,” added Beatz. “We plan on doing bigger and better things. “For now, you can catch Feu at Crazy Horse through May 31st.
