At 25, Alexandra Richards seems to have it all—she’s an in-demand DJ and has a sizzling modeling career. And her killer tunes, enviable style, and stunning runway-friendly looks all make sense, given that she’s the daughter of Keith Richards and former Calvin Klein model , Patti Hansen. ELLE chatted with Richards about her headline-making hobbies, making her daddy proud, and how she’s still pinching herself after being photographed by Mario Testino at 17.
ELLE: Tell us about your debut DJ gig.
AR: It was 5 years ago at a bar near my house. I started out on iPod and CD… I’ve come a long way!
ELLE: Who was your favorite new musician of 2011?
AR: French Montana
ELLE: You’ve graced the pages of fashion magazines and have been
photographed by famed photographers. What’s been your most memorable
AR: When I was 17, I did a crazy Valentino shoot with Mario Testino. Wearing a couture dress and being picked up in the air by 5 Italian men in black speedos was pretty fun for me at age 17.
ELLE: You’re also an artist. Can we expect to see any of your work in
the new year? Who are your favorite artists?
AR: I went to SVA for two years and was modeling and DJing during that time as well. So it was hard to balance and fit in art shows. I’ve been drawing during all of my travels and I’ve picked up photography. So hopefully in 2012 I’ll be able to put it all together. I love Gustav Klimt, Egon Shiele, and Lempicka.
ELLE: Do you remember your Y2K experience?
AR: 2000 was pretty crazy. Everyone thought the world was ending and we all stocked up on canned goods and water. Was a lot of tension! And excitement to see what would happen at midnight.
ELLE: What are your favorite nightlife spots around the world and in NYC?
AR: I love my pubs. I love Tropical and Toad’s Place. Little holes in the wall. Bungalow 8 and Beatrice were my favorites but they aren’t around anymore. I’ve settled for low key joints now, as I am always at nightclubs for work.
ELLE: What was your favorite concert of 2011?
AR: Prince at MSG! My dad and Johnny Depp also did a few songs together at Hiro for The Rum Diary premiere.
ELLE: Has your dad seen you DJ? What does he think?
AR: He loves my music. He saw me when I first started. I was terrible but had great tunes. The bar was empty as well—it was pretty embarrassing, but you gotta start somewhere.
ELLE: Do you have a New Year’s resolution?
AR: Live life to its fullest. And stop biting my nails.
ELLE: So, it now being 2012 and all… Can you give us a little playlist
to get us through the back-to-work week?
AR: Pitbull – Give Me Everything Tonight , Prince – Pop Life, Tom Waits – Hell Raiser , French Montana – Shot Caller , Rihanna ft. Jay-Z – Talk That Talk
