PARIS—Anthony Vaccarello had three reasons to celebrate tonight: he showed a stellar fall collection, debuted accessories and got Karlie Kloss back on the runway.
Kloss has been noticeably absent from the collections this season. The model said she’d skip New York, London and Milan to take advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity. Rumor has it she meant a commercial gig in Japan, one that didn’t work out. But yesterday she tweeted that she’d landed in Paris and tonight, she opened Vacarello’s show in a slim, navy silk tuxedo. The crowd nearly sighed with relief when it caught sight of her familiar face.
Then there was Vaccarello’s collection—a parade of super sexy mini dresses and slim cut jumpsuits with tiny angular flaps where women who aren’t models usually have breasts. The Belgian-Italian showed mostly black and navy, with a brief story of lurex green dresses twisted into a sort of mermaid bondage look.
Lastly, the show marked his first go at accessories. Vaccarello collaborated with Giussepe Zanotti on four different silhouettes, including the strappy pointed pump on tonight’s runway. When the capsule collection hits stores next fall there will also be sandals and booties, made of matte leather with lurex and satin detail. “I’ve been following Anthony’s work for some time now. I’m full of admiration for his talent and his creativity, it’s the reason behind my desire to work with him,” Zanotti said in the show notes.
Though the notes also promise they’ll be put into production, do be careful upon purchasing a pair. One model fell so many times in the finale that two other models had to escort her off the runway. Ouch!
