Rumor had it that Azealia Banks was in town to perform at Topshop’s after party on Tuesday—but the New York-based rapper was headed to Cardiff last night, after just one day on the scene.
“It’s going really well,” she said of her first go at fashion week. Banks hit Mulberry in the morning and Topshop, right on the Thames, in the afternoon. “It feels very frantic, but I like it. I’m doing my best to not fall off my heels and not have any boogers in my nose and suck my stomach in, you know?”
So far so good. Banks attracted a fair amount of attention, even in the midst of stars like Michelle Williams and Lana Del Rey, no doubt thanks to the recent New York Times profile, as well as the fashion crowd’s growing interest in the performer. Her hit song, “212,” was mixed in with TLC’s “Creep” and M.I.A.’s “Bad Girls” on the Topshop Unique’s killer soundtrack.
As for the fashion, Banks has her eye on anything 90s. She’d already previewed Unique’s fall collection backstage, before the show, and picked out a pink suit. “It’s like a thin stretch material, very like Cher Horowitz, and I’m into that, definitely.”
