The only place you’ll find more men then women during fashion week is at anything Billy Reid. This season, the beloved Alabaman staged his first proper runway show—after many seasons of packed presentations—on the West Side Highway.
And though Reid’s probably better known for his award-winning, well-tailored, no nonsense men’s wear—hence the rows filled with sharply dressed teams from Park & Bond, Mr. Porter and Esquire—it was the women’s wear that had editors buzzing.
“Did you see that women’s wear man? It was killer!” we overheard one GQ editor say on the way out.
Killer might be the best word to describe the strong silhouettes, trimmed in leather and topped with wide-brimmed suede hats. Reid showed women’s bags, too—about the size of suitcases—and made great use of navy blue leather. Needless to say, he also showed some of the best coats we’ve seen thus far.
Now that he’s conquered the world of men’s wear, it looks like Reid’s turning his attention to his loyal female fans—they won’t be disappointed.
