John Carter was supposed to be the big movie that turned Taylor Kitsch from the smoking hot quarterback with a cult following—Friday Night Lights’ Tim Riggins—into an A-list movie star. The Disney film, however, bombed. And that’s putting it mildy. The movie, about a Civil War soldier who ends up battling aliens on Mars, ended up costing the studio over $200 million. So to say that Kitsch’s next two movies are important is a bit of an understatement.
If nothing else, Battleship, which comes out May 18th, will attract a wider audience. It’s directed by Peter Berg, the man behind Friday Night Lights, and stars Rihanna and Alexander Skarsgaard alongside Kitsch. But if that bombs, there’s Savages. Oliver Stone’s first movie since Wall Street 2 stars everyone from Blake Lively (who got the role after Jennifer Lawrence dropped out to play Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games) and John Travolta to Salma Hayek, Uma Thurman and Benicio Del Toro. Though the movie doesn’t come out until the end of September, the first trailer was just released. Click through to watch.
