Here we are again, round 2! 7FAM giveaway to 5 lucky readers for an exclusive evening of fun, cocktails and a pair of denim at Yorkdale Mall. I’ve teamed up with Sharon and Tara from The Backseat Stylers for this great event where we style ourselves in 7FAM weekly for the month of May. The idea is we each pick 5 winners and invite them out to Yorkdale 7FAM location for an evening of styling and then each lucky winner leaves with their own pair of denim!
This week, I chose to pair my destroyed slim cigarette 7FAM in pink with my Marni for H&M mens mac jacket, Tibi sleeveless white shirt, vintage Benetton zebra pony hair oxfords, COS silk scarf and Roots Brooklyn bag.

Favourite: Roots 40th
Posted on May 15, 2013 |
Did you know that every single Roots item is made in Canada, and to be more specific in Toronto? Quite literally across the street from Yorkdale mall. I got to go check out the factory on a guided tour with the negative gravity shoe man himself, Karl Kowalewski. He’s dressed Elton John, Pope John Paul and even Riri!
Roots as far as Canadiana is concerned is legendary. Yet, in true Canadian fashion was started by two Americans (we do have the hardest time piping up). Growing up everyone wore their cottage sweats with the iconic beaver, or the varsity jacket or a bag (or two or three). I remember my mom always carried their black pebble cross body half bucket and kept buying it for years. It was a real Canuck fashion moment for me to get to walk through the factory with Karl and hear some juicy tidbits about the last 40 years of business.
But really it’s all about the product and the craftsmanship and love that’s put into each piece. Their leather warehouse left me drooling with the finest skins from Italy dyed, hand worked and treated to last you for years. I even spotted Tyler French’s new creation due out this Fall for Chatelaine and it’s a beaut!
So Roots, here’s to another 40!

WIYB: Michelle for Holt Renfrew

One of my favourite shots from the most recent What’s In Your Bag? with Holt Renfrew. Where we ask the most stylish Holt’s shoppers, what did you buy?
Here we have Michelle Ferraro wearing Nicholas Kirkwood neon loafers, Chanel quilted purse, and Oliver People’s clear frame sunglasses, so good!

I’ve joined forces with 7 For All Mankind to bring you jeans and style at Yorkdale mall! What a mouthful. So to tell you a bit more about this fun project for the month of May. Textstyles and Backseat Stylers have come together and we’re styling ourselves in a different pair of 7FAM each Thursday this month. Each week you guys get to enter the contest for an exclusive invite-only styling event with yours truly at the Yorkdale 7FAM store.

Backseat Stylers and I chose some denim to get the ball rolling. For my bike ride and cherry blossom day-o-fun I decided to pair the Slim Chino with a silk top from Everlane tied at the waist. It was still chilly so I threw on my trusty vintage army camise and Tretorn tennis shoes. Topped it all off with a Brixton boater, Supers sunglasses, and Zara bag. (click through the slideshow above from some cherry blossom shots.)
Now for what you really wanna hear I’m sure, the contest. 5 contestants will be chosen from Textstyles to participate in a styling event at Yorkdale mall on May 29th. Each winner will receive a pair of their very own 7 For All Mankind jeans and be styled in store by me, and there will be cocktails!

Street Style: Portrait

It’s spring! Finally, so when the changes are so drastic I almost forget how to dress for the new climate. I came across this shot whilst doing some housekeeping and couldn’t take my eyes off her. I love a good smile, a great smile and I’m sold! But it’s more than just that, the way her hair is braided, the wisps of white around the temples, that gorgeous bib necklace and the striped dress. In light of this season’s brights and neons I thought it was the perfect way to work it into your wardrobe.
I’d do away with the belt, but that’s the beauty of street style, it should be sartorially inspiring. It’s not necessary that each head-to-toe ensemble be the exact look for you, but it’s a small detail or an idea.

Street Style: Ulyana Sergeenko

One of my all time favourite shots. Ulyana Sergeenko from behind in Milan, shot outside Dolce & Gabbana. What I love most is that it reminds me of a shot by my all time favourite street photographer, Vivian Maier. I so can’t wait til the documentary comes out, here.
Happy weekend!

Street Style: Milan
Posted on April 25, 2013 |

This look couldn’t be any more suited to me. Aside from that, this shot reminds me so much of what I love in street photography. First of all there I was in Milan, a dream become my reality. It just so happened that I turned around and with all these people scattering after a show there was this window to this beautiful woman. She was searching the crowd for someone, her head turned up with that expectant look. The crowd framing her on all sides. I don’t know who she is or who she’s wearing, but that moment truly was perfection.
We all get caught up in the idea of perception—how we see ourselves, how others see us. Inevitably we judge, we feel insecure or, defensive. You can sit in that and see where it gets you, or you can look for beauty. Like a well spring, once you find that sweet spot you’ll never be short of inspiration.
Anyone know who she is?
