Who needs Valentine’s Day when you have fashion week? While the rest of New York celebrated love, the fashion pack hopped from one party to another, covering a wide spectrum of brands—and Manhattan.
Renzo Rosso kicked off the evening early, with an in-store fete for his Diesel Black Gold store on Greene Street. Mia Moretti did her thing on the 1′s and 2′s, but she was able to rest her feet in those towering pumps when indie crooner St. Vincent delivered a short and sweet surprise performance. The sea of cocktail-clutching cuties was more keen on the flashing cameras—they followed Stephen Dorff everywhere—and the pouting face of Diesel’s new fragrance, Loverdose, Ashley Smith. Between cigarette drags outside of the store, the very blonde Smith agreed that after going brunette for the Loverdose ads, blondes definitely have more fun.
A little after 9PM, we had to jet to not one, but two parties at the Gramercy Park Hotel. First up was Narciso Rodriguez’s intimate fete upstairs at the GPH’s terrace. We immediately (and literally) bumped elbows at the bar with Claire Danes. The recent Golden Globe winner was clad in a form-fitting black Rodriguez number, and though we were set to grill on her on the revival of Angela Chase-friendly fashions, she was busy “getting Mr. Rodriguez his drink.” The party was as quiet and civilized as one would expect a Rodriguez affair to be, so when we saw a child we bolted downstairs to Rose Bar, which was packed with hipsters dancing to a frenetic performance by the ACNE-clad rockers, The Rapture. At one point, the guitarist rocked out on top of the bar to the approval of inebriated squeals.
Back downtown, Miu Miu toasted the third film in its series of shorts celebrating the brand: The Woman Dress, directed by Giada Colagrande. Au Revoir Simone played in a loft on the edge of Nolita while guests ranging from Joe Jonas and Channing Tatum to Marina Abramovic and the brand’s new face, Mia Wasikowska, drank Whiskey Collins and dresses hung from the ceiling. Across town, guest clamored for the ultimate Valentine’s Day surprise: a Dita Von Teese performance. If the line to (attempt) getting into the Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room to see the infamous burlesque superstar in action was any indication, this was the Tuesday evening ticket to beat. Champagne-spilling socialites complained about the cash bar, until the spotlight hit a massive martini glass sitting on a tiny stage. Finally, at 1AM, the sparkling sequined-clad diva coquettishly hopped on stage to deliver a titillating strip tease. A sea of raised iPhones may have experienced water damage when Teese started gyrating inside her martini glass. “I just martini-ed about twenty iPhones. But please, look with your eyes, not with your screen!” tweeted Teese after the show. “You WILL get wet on this ride, folks!”
