Street style photographer Adam Katz Sinding of the popular blog Le 21éme Arrondisement and ELLE.com’s own Market Editor, Sydney Wasserman, have teamed up on an exhibit at The W in Times Square. “Scene on the Street,” which aims to bridge the gap between fashion and art, transforms the hotel’s living room into a gallery filled with photos of peacocking fashionistas.
Though unlike many fashion collaborations, this exhibit didn’t come about without an endearing backstory. Wasserman, who edits our daily street style column, was searching around for some new talent and landed on Sinding’s blog while he was still located in Seattle. ”I contacted him, and he told me he was about to move to New York and asked if I needed someone there…he picks subjects that are really put together, they’re not always a tall skinny girl. He has an eye for personal style, but my favorite part about him is that he’s insanely particular and always delivers five images to me each day.”
Those twenty five photos per week have been whittled down to just 24 stand-out images. ”We angled it at this coming season’s trends, based on what people were wearing around fashion week. They were seeing the new shows and trying to emulate them in real time,” Wasserman explained. Tasked with curating the exhibit, she made a point of highlighting some of next season’s must-haves like bra tops, polished button-up shirts, and geometric prints. According to her, the photos display, “what New Yorkers wear, and that usually dissolves into bigger trends in similar age groups.”
