“For me, personally, this season is all about the eyes—I’m not really into doing lips,” says M.A.C makeup guru Charlotte Tilbury, who chose bold eyes for Cushnie et Ochs, Prabal Gurung, Rachel Zoe, and Donna Karan. It seems that her counterpart, Dick Page, feels differently: at Marc by Marc Jacobs, the Shiseido artistic director painted models’ lips a bright orange-red.
“We kept the skin and eyes really clean because we wanted the poster-paint red to be the focus,” says Page. To complement the pops of red and saturated ’80s-inspired prints in Jacobs’ collection, Page used a custom-made wax. “It’s actually sort of horrible—you wouldn’t want to wear it daily—but it gives the flat 2-D effect we were going for,” he says of the product. “It’s what lipstick is like before they add emollients and slip to it. It’s very opaque and dense.”
Though she’d opt for a different texture, model Anais Pouliot (pictured above) loves the lip color Page created. “It’s so beautiful,” she raves. “And I like that the rest of the makeup is simple—just a fresh face with mascara.”
Pouliot opts for a red lip off the runway too: “When I go out to a restaurant or party, I like wearing red—it’s so chic and glamorous and really makes a difference. My favorite products are M.A.C lipstick in Russian Red and this red gloss from Nars.”
