Kate Hudson’s second Ann Taylor campaign went live this morning. The actress shows off a colorful selection of the brand’s increasingly on trend clothes, so we hopped on the phone with Hudson to talk fashion, babies and what sounds like a burgeoning interest in musicals.
ELLE: Which pieces from Ann Taylor’s spring collection are you particularly excited to wear?
KH: The pieces I really loved—there was a great cobalt blue blouse that was a really great color and then there were these lace dresses that were really nice. I’ve always been hesitant to wear bright colors but these were really nice colors—when I put these pieces on they were so fun.
ELLE: Your first campaign for Ann Taylor, this past fall, marked your first fashion campaign since Tommy Hilfiger in the 90s! Why now? Why Ann Taylor?
KH: I’m not working so I’m not super busy and I felt in terms of what Ann Taylor stands for—their campaigns are beautiful. It’s just fun, it’s one of those things when they ask and the time is right
ELLE: What do you have in the works, movie wise?
KH: I’ve got all sorts of stuff right now happening and nothing I think that’s ready to talk about? After working with Rob Marshall on Nine, singing and dancing was the best I’ve ever felt…
ELLE: What’s it like having another baby around?
KH: When they are so young you want to spend as much time with them as possible…They always say that the first one is an overwhelming life changing experience and the second one will be different, but it’s not and there’s a part of it you that does feel a little bit easier. I remember what it felt like in the beginning with Rider and the most interesting thing that happened is that Rider is almost eight, and you’re so present in the age that you forget what it was like unless you look back in your journal. Then you have a second baby all the memories of having Rider just came flooding back and then to see Rider with his brother and now he communicates with him and holds him and loves him and it softens him—it’s just beautiful.
