About thirty minutes after the official start time of Derek Lam‘s fall show yesterday morning, the lights dimmed and the crowd grew silent. Then the lights came back up—and stayed up. Turned out we were waiting for Suzy Menkes to arrive. When she did, the photographers chanted, “Su-zy, Su-zy,” until the lights dimmed again and the show actually began; it was worth the wait. Lam showed an excellently edited collection of sharp leather pants and skirts and floral printed dresses. These weren’t girly florals though, instead they had an Amy Winehouse-meets-Little House on the Prairie rockabilly vibe to them. His last two looks, above, were so perfect that we wanted to find a way to wear them now. Below, a few possible couplings.
