Designers don’t usually sit in the front row of their own fashion show, nor do they tend to give themselves a standing ovation, but all bets are off when you’re talking about a Trump. Ivanka Trump staged her first runway show at Lord & Taylor last night, showing off what she believes women want to wear both day and night with her family’s signature trailblazing attitude.
“Ivanka is the most searched designer on our website. It shows that there is something in a name,” Bonnie Brooks, Lord & Taylor’s president explained in a speech before the show. And she’s right, the designer’s last name is quite literally a goldmine. In honor of that upstanding surname (or brand name, for accuracy’s sake), the entire Trump clan came out to play. ”She has great taste, she’s always had great taste, so I really like it,” the Donald said of his daughter’s flair for fashion. Also on hand were Ivanka’s siblings, relegated to a separate section that neighbored the more notorious Trumps. There were ex-Trumps too, as Ivanka’s mother was seated (buffered) away from Donald on the opposite side of her son-in-law, Jared Kushner—who’s apparently the owner of a tantalizing knee, as it received some seriously loving strokes throughout the show’s entirety.
And as the runway music pined-up, the conversation did too, some of it Trump and the rest of it fanfare. A slew of uninvited guests marveled from outside the show’s velvet ropes—a hoard of people that extended all the way to the store’s fifth floor shoe salon. They watched as models from Trump’s agency (including runway veteran Lisa Cant, who made her runway return after a nearly-three-year absence) sashayed through the store in work wear basics. ”It’s feminine and girly without being juvenile,” Trump said of her collection. Bateau tops, straw hats, streamlined trousers, and silky dresses comprised a majority of the collection—clothes that will be more than well received by women who admire the Trump mentality from the safety of their living room couches.
