An 8PM start time on an after party invite translates in to low-key, fancy cocktails, a lovely way to kick off a night of who knows what’s to come. Unless you’re Jason Wu.
Last night, the designer threw his intimate soiree at the cavernous Double Seven just hours after showing a strong, Chinese-inspired collection. He told us the brocade suits, embroidered key-hole dresses and tasseled jackets and earrings were his answer to a specific question: “What is Chinese?”
Wu’s loyal front row—Coco Rocha, the Clarins heiresses, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo—congratulated the designer with flash-inducing hugs and double-kisses. Suit-clad, and all-smiles, Wu asked why we were sans cocktail, grabbing one from the passing waiter’s tray. “I insist. Sip the whole thing!” he laughed, over the DJ’s extra loud Karen O.
Leading up to his show, the seasoned designer wasn’t sweating it. “My staff did not stay past nine this week. I’m really proud of that. I care about my girls. And I feel like when you’re prepared, you can do anything.” Wu was certainly prepared to party, so we had to ask: What would get his booty shaking? “Some Beyoncé, of course.”
