Olivier Theyskens, when helming Rochas and then Nina Ricci, was known for his extravagantly sumptuous gowns. If there was ever an occasion for such a dress, it would be the Met Ball last night, but Theyskens and his date, Caroline Trentini (who recently wore a Theyskens-designed dress for her wedding), were feeling something different. So instead, the designer took the most casual combination and turned it on its head. “This dress is made out of denim, yes!” Olivier Theyskens told Fashionologie. “It looks beautiful because it’s like velvet, but it’s denim! Nowadays I’m doing Theyskens’ Theory and I wanted to switch a little bit and I wanted to do a jean dress with a beautifully embroidered t-shirt. So it’s like a t-shirt and jeans. But in a red carpet way.” Its comfort level remained high, Trentini confirmed: “It feels amazing.” Click through to see the look full-length!
