In Los Angeles last night, Jennifer Lopez celebrated her new fragrance, Glowing—a tribute to her inaugural scent, Glow, and a decade of olfactory hits with Coty. But even though she’s wildly popular in the perfume world (her scents have grossed $2 billion worldwide), Lopez insists she’s not a beauty mogul: “It’s surprising for me to be here ten years later and have that success.”

Also surprising to Lopez was a Glowing bottle-shaped lemon coconut cake with glitter frosting. As guests sang “Happy Anniversary” to the tune of “Happy Birthday,” Lopez was visibly awestruck—almost as awestruck as we were at her impressively radiant appearance. Fresh from the American Idol set where she performed her single, “Dance Again,” it was hard to believe Lopez didn’t have a body double. Dressed to perfection in a 3.1 Phillip Lim top-and-shorts set and Louboutin heels, Lopez’s svelte silhouette was complemented by—yes, you guessed it—ridiculously glowing skin.

Having her supportive boyfriend, Casper Smart, sitting nearby may have been a factor in Lopez’s radiance, but the megastar credits sunscreen and sleep. “I wear sunscreen every day and I try to get my sleep—beauty sleep is true, and I can’t function without it with all the things that I do with the kids,” says Lopez. “Being a working mom, when they go to bed, I’m in bed right after them. I try to be in bed by 10 p.m.” As for her taut frame, Lopez says she eschews crazy diets: “I try to eat well, but I’m not a fanatic or gluten-free or anything like that. I try to watch my portions and I exercise—I’m dancing a lot right now because I’m getting ready for a tour, so that’s very helpful.”

Given Lopez’s golden touch, there’s no doubt her tour and Glowing will be massive successes. According to Lopez, she is very hands-on with her projects, only choosing ones she’s passionate about. And so, just as music inspired her from an early age, so did perfume. “When I was around 13 years old I worked in a perfume store and learned about what made fragrance great,” says Lopez. “Music and scent, it’s all about the same thing. It’s about creating memories and the soundtrack—the essence—of your life.”

Look for Glowing—a scent with hints of mandarin, bergamot, sandalwood, and vanilla—at Kohl’s. P.S. In addition to its intoxicating, woodsy scent, Glow comes in a cool package: an LED light illuminates its crystal cylinder for 15 seconds after misting (a first in the industry). We can’t help but bask in the warmth for a moment—and hope to absorb at least a little bit of Lopez’s glow.
