Last night at the MTV Movie Awards, Johnny Depp took the stage—but not just to accept his award. He accompanied The Black Keys—who he later called “up-and-coming legends”—on guitar for special performances of the band’s tracks “Gold on the Ceiling” and “Lonely Boy.”
Depp is set to be honored with back-to-back awards: after last night’s Generation Award, the CFDA is bestowing him with a Fashion Icon Award at tonight’s ceremony. There will be no guitar-playing Depp in attendance, though: he was reported last week to be skipping because he’s on location in the Navajo Nation shooting The Lone Ranger.
Regardless, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, who were presenting last night, praised Depp for his “gutsiness as an artist,” calling him “a rock star”—see the performance for yourself after the cut.
