“We’re creating a fighter-woman,” said Kérastase hairstylist Odile Gilbert, who wrapped slick ponytails with black electrical tape backstage at Jason Wu (“The tape gives the ponytail a Lara Croft feeling”).
For sleekness and shine, she relied on Kérastase Fibre Architecte and Double-Force Control Hairspray—but for model Jourdan Dunn, she only used the former. “Jourdan loves the Fibre Architecte because it makes her hair smooth but also fixes it,” says Gilbert. “She told me, ‘no hairspray, just this!’”
Dunn will likely be using the reparative styling treatment quite a bit after the strain of today’s hairstyle: “The ponytail is really, really tight!” she exclaimed while waiting to do a run-through. “I love it, but it’s kind of giving me a headache. It’s giving me a face-lift as well, though, which is cool. It also goes great with the gorgeous makeup—the two really go hand in hand.”
Makeup maestro Diane Kendal says the decadent eyes reference the Ming Dynasty, Chinese military, and 1940s Hollywood—influences behind Wu’s collection. “The emerald eye shadow is very rich and opulent, but also goes with the green of the military,” says Kendal. “The Hollywood aspect is reflected in the swept-out shape.”
For extra definition, Kendal also employed black eyeliner—and mascara, Dunn’s go-to. “I wear lots of mascara,” says Dunn of her everyday eye look. At the moment, however, she’s also wearing individual lash extensions. “It’s the first time I’ve gotten them,” she says. “I went out a couple weeks ago and wanted some extra length—if only they were my own lashes!”
