Traditionally, Karl Lagerfeld’s side projects are more accessible than the job for which he’s most famous. Almost everyone can eat Magnum ice cream or shop at H&M, even a Volvo is more in reach than an haute couture dress from Chanel (for most). But the prolific designer’s latest project is for the uber-elite. The man is designing helicopters, specifically, VIP helicopters (as opposed to medical?).
AgustaWestland, which is based in Italy, has asked Lagerfeld to start with the AW139 twin-turbine helicopter, which carries up to 15 passengers, and if he does a good job he’ll get to do more. He’s responsible for both the interiors and exteriors and though there’s no word on when they’ll be released into the friendly skies, we have no doubt that we’ll hear lots about it.
