If last night had a theme, it’d be glitter.
Over-the-top design duo, The Blonds, were supposed to kick off their perpetually sparkling show at 8PM at Milk Studios, but the incessant flashbulbs illuminating the zaniest front-row of the week—Cassie, Miss Jay, Adam Lambert, Ladyfag—caused a bit of a delay. The late start was in line with the concert-like atmosphere, adding to the head-turning excitement and providing the perfect build-up to a parade of fancy corsets. “I am not as sparkly as I once was,” said a Gareth Pugh-clad Lambert. “I’m feeling a bit more streamlined.” He was, however, still sporting heavy eyeliner, a coiffed raven-dyed hairdo and green, cat-eye contacts. On the other end of the spectrum, Cassie said she went “old school,” pairing white Vision sweats with a killer leather biker jacket, a plaid shirt tied around her waist and Alexander McQueen boots. Unsurprisingly, she revealed her style icons range from Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss to Janet Jackson and Aaliyah—a killer combination no matter how it’s mixed.
Needless to say, when Lil’ Kim walked in, the photographers went crazy. The pint-sized hip-hop icon sashayed to the front-row to give Cassie a hug as the lights dimmed and the runway’s motorcycle growled. An electro remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Kind Outta Luck” blared. Lambert gushed after the show: “I love them. They’re not afraid of anything. They’re so bold. I love how over-the-top they are. It’s all show-stoppers. Every piece.”
Uptown, Lil’ Kim’s highly-public rival, Nicki Minaj, co-hosted M.A.C.’s Viva Glam party with Ricky Martin. In honor of the duo’s colorful David Chapelle-lensed campaign, DJ Benny Benassi spun a top-notch set for an eclectic crowd, including Alexander Wang, Kelly Osbourne, and Tinsley Mortimer, that was so ready to dance. At one point, an overactive fog machine turned on, strobe lights flashed and the stage spun around to reveal the famous hosts, each of whom dished on their new campaign. Minaj threw in a sex tip for good measure: “Wear a condom! It’s as simple as that.”
The night was young, so Wang and company carried the party over to the Standard Hotel’s Le Bain, where Jeremy Scott was holding court. As expected, Scott’s after party was a full-on sweaty dance-athon thanks to the Misshapes mixing in a heavy dose of Whitney Houston classics. It Girl songstress Sky Ferreira chatted away at a table with Scott, while nightlife fixtures like Sophia Lamar hit the dance floor with bouncing hipsters in shredded skinnies. Downtown-friendly designers like Richard Chai and Phillip Lim were also seen letting loose after their busy week, but it was spotting Jared Leto with BFF Terry Richardson that was the ultimate Fashion Week night-cap.
