On day three of Fashion Week, unorthodox hair tools, crimson pouts and dramatically defined creases abound. Here, the latest beauty trends to grace the fall 2012 runways.
We never thought we’d see forceps backstage at a fashion show, but turns out the phrase “medically speaking” isn’t just for doctors. Aveda’s Kevin Ryan used the tool to strategically rearrange strands of hair in each updo at Tibi to diffuse the structure. “It’s not brain surgery, but we share some of the same equipment,” he quipped. At Mara Hoffman, center-parted teased hairstyles with tons of texture were more about the horizontal than the vertical. Jeannie Syfu created an undone side-bun at Rebecca Minkoff using TREsemme products, while haphazard topknots were tempered with prim headbands at Michael Angel.
Fiery Red Lips
In a move that will stun exactly no one, red lips are all the rage for fall. Ruffian’s twist on the crisp weather beauty staple (inspired by the English countryside) was pairing it with feminine curls and minimalist eyes so that the pout pops. Charlotte Ronson’s version toed the line between punchy red and orange, while MAC Cosmetics’ Val Garland opted for a “devil red” lip look at Monique L’huillier. Deep blood-red lips and pink cheeks to counteract any glampire associations ruled the runway at Christian Siriano.
Stark stripes elongating the crease of the eye were ubiquitous on Saturday. Maybelline’s Charlotte Tilbury used a gel liner to create a modern take on a feline eye using two sets of false lashes and a swipe of liner in the socket at Rachel Zoe. “The inspiration is Mick Jagger as a woman!” exclaimed Tilbury. In a more whimsical take on Kennedy administration lids, feigned Twiggy lashes were painted onto a blue line by Maybelline’s Charlotte Willer at the LAMB presentation—a look well complemented by Sixties bouffants. At Erin Fetherston, James Kaliardos for M.A.C. Cosmetics went for a “dark fairy” look, defining models’ sockets with a deep eye shadow applied with a lighter hand.
