Margiela’s rumored H&M collection was surprise enough this morning, but here’s news of another unexpected collaboration: Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman has done a little design work for the NFL.
Chapman designed a limited-edition shirt for the league, which will make its debut during the NFL’s two weeks of kickoff festivities in New York, planned around the September 5 New York Giants-Dallas Cowboys season opener, WWD reports.
No further details about the shirt’s appearance or its price have been furnished, but it’s part of a bigger fashion-friendly push by the NFL. Stylist Tiina Laakkonen and photographer Daniel Jackson, who both have a high fashion background, worked together on the league’s upcoming “It’s My Team” campaign, which features women as diverse as Melania Trump, DJ Kiss, and Condoleezza Rice mixing NFL logo gear with designer pieces. The NFL’s director of apparel, Rhiannon Madden, told WWD of the campaign, which breaks in August fashion and lifestyle magazines: “We want to show that you can be a fan by what you wear to work, going to the gym or out at night with girlfriends. It’s also a message of empowerment. It’s your team—not your guy’s team.”
