Forget timed trunk shows or leap of faith pre-orders, or even the antiquated idea of a waitlist, because Mulberry heard you were excited about their Del Rey bag and decided to toss it onto a couple of shelves months before what would have been a fall debut. The bag, named for Mulberry designer Emma Hill‘s current favorite pop star, Lana Del Rey, caused quite a stir when it hit the runway at London Fashion Week. For one thing, its namesake sat front row at the brand’s Claridge’s show. For another, Del Rey was the least established star for which a luxury good had ever been named. Of course, the beauty of the bag itself didn’t hurt. It’s classic Mulberry, a simple luggage like shape with minimal hardware in various leathers. Mulberry said that as of this morning, over 3000 people had registered interest in the bag online, so they’ve released limited quantities of the black and brown in their Spring Street store in New York and their New Bond Street store in London just this morning. Everyone else can grab one starting May 14th.
