This morning came news that Natalie Portman’s Oscar gown had been sold for $50,000. The 1954 red vintage Christian Dior gown—a size 4—was bought from the couture dealer Rare Vintage, which had lent Portman the dress for the occasion, by an anonymous British couture collector in London.
Now, a version of the gold-embroidered black silk Alexander McQueen dress Jessica Chastain wore to the Oscars is being stocked by Net-a-Porter. The online retailer’s version, which has a tiered silk-organza skirt, retails for $28,950. Chastain’s version likely runs more expensive, given that the embellishment on her dress runs all the way down to the hem, and such detailing usually drives up the price of a dress.
