Though Peter Copping’s fall collection was inspired by the classic dress up box—a mishmash of styles spanning at least three generations, cut, pasted and sewn together—it was actually less formal than in season’s past.
If you’ve become a devotee of Copping’s frilly cocktail dresses, you needn’t worry—they’ll be there come fall. But there will also be slouchy suits and un-tucked silk tops with sheer panels for the naughtier good girl. The show’s notes explain it thusly: “Copping subtly challenges traditional Parisian silhouettes and delivers desirable, relaxed alternatives.”
The designer said he was inspired by “a young girl exploring the wardrobe of her mother and grandmother.” The slips and sheer layers suited the young girl while the boucle jackets could have come from her mother’s closet and the low slung furs, many of which elicited audible “oohs” and “aahs” from the audience, straight off her grandmother’s back.
