As in previous seasons, we found Revlon’s Gucci Westman and T3’s Orlando Pita backstage at Oscar de la Renta—the two beauty gurus crafted doll-like lashes, luminous skin, and bejeweled faux bobs to complement the designer’s ’60s silhouettes and girly ruffles. But this time around, there was something new.
Whereas de la Renta’s last fall/winter show featured a dark, uniform nail color—and hands often hidden in gloves or pockets—now fingers flashed vibrantly in hues of light blue, bright red, and rich purple.
The three lacquers—Essential Larimar, Essential Carnation, and Essential Aubergine—are part of de la Renta’s new Essential Luxuries Collection, launching online and in stores this October. Besides six nail polishes, the line will also include six coordinating lipsticks.
According to insiders, each of the cosmetic shades is based on inspirations from de la Renta’s everyday life. For example, the designer has had a longtime love affair with Spain’s red carnations, and the Dominican Republic’s blue larimar gemstones (he has homes in both locales). We took a snapshot of the nail polish lab samples backstage. See our photo after the jump!
