Since getting her start as a Disney channel darling on the Wizards of Waverly Place, Selena Gomez has already completed that awkward transition from tween to teen roles. But with her 20th birthday coming up in July, she’s poised to shed her sugar-coated image even more: she just finished wrapping Spring Breakers, where she plays a college student that robs a restaurant (!) to fund her vacation. Also on the agenda is a duet with the voice of the late Selena (whom she was named for) on Enamorada De Ti, a tribute album honoring the latin songstress. And perhaps the most apparent sign of Gomez’s maturing tastes is the sizzling campaign photo for her new eponymous perfume, Selena Gomez.
Launching at Macy’s and Macys.com in May, the scent marks Gomez’s first foray into the fragrance industry. With fruity orange, pineapple, peach, and raspberry, gourmand extracts of vanilla and chocolate, and traces of freesia and musk, the perfume packs a diverse range of notes. Calling it “romantic, rich, and sweet,” Gomez says she spent a good deal of time making it “something different.”
