Just days after Simon Spurr received his fourth CFDA nomination for menswear designer of the year, the designer left his eponymous brand.
News of his departure circulated late Friday and today WWD publishes Spurr’s brief comment: “At this moment, I’m not at liberty to say anything about what’s gone on.”
Of course, something has gone on. Spurr’s at the top of his game; his tuxes are spotted on one red carpet after another and plenty of regular dudes wear his suits, too. He just received the 2012 FGI Rising Star Award for Menswear, has (had?) a good chance of scooping up the CFDA in June and, for the past two years, has consulted on Tommy Hilfiger’s runway collections. While we always kind of hoped that the designer would go the way of Michael Bastian or Scott Sternberg, and start whipping up some women’s clothes, it sounds like that won’t happen anytime soon—at least not under his own name.
