MIKE AND IKE® are splitting up. Pourquoi? Creative differences, it’s like watching your favourite band fall apart to pursue solo careers. The split hasn’t been the most amicable with retaliation on both fronts.
So the real question is, “Are you team Mike, or team Ike?”
When Mike & Ike approached me about their new artistic pursuits, I thought about how I could relate their story to you, my fashion-loving readers.
I had a brainwave, with the split between Mike and Ike I’d fashion a necklace in their honour as homage to today’s à la mode candy hued necklaces.
The inspiration behind the quest? Full disclosure my mommy Georgina Yarhi is a costume designer, you met her recently, and I do get a lot of inspiration from her. Back in the late 80s, she made the most expensive, laser-cut, tribal style candy necklace for a sweet brand’s commercial. The candies broke, they melted, and bled over sweaty palms but the piece came together in the end.
With Mike leaving to work at his music, I was inspired to look at something more tonal, and yes that was a terrible pun. Whereas, Ike who’s pursuing the arts made me think more abstract colour clashing.
Help me decide whether I’m Team Mike or Team Ike. Vote on your favourite necklace in the comments below.

A big thanks to my mom for helping to design and construct the necklaces, it was a sticky job. Also, to Sarah Miles for modelling the pieces in 40 degree weather.
