After years of will they or won’t they make a Sex and the City prequel, there’s finally real news. Though it won’t hit the big screen (which may be a blessing) the CW has ordered a pilot of The Carrie Diaries.
Candace Bushnell’s book covers Carrie Bradshaw’s last year of high school, which means there’s no room Samantha, Miranda or Charlotte. But it is high school, so the writers should have a grand time building a different kind of clique, and it does take place in Manhattan in the early 80s.
When whispers of a film made their way across the Internet, names like Blake Lively and Elizabeth Olsen swirled through the rumor mill. On the CW, however, there’s a good chance a cast of unknowns will fill the show, like Gossip Girl, Dawson’s Creek and every other CW series before it.
A show about high school featuring characters who are, in theory, beloved by women who are now in their 30s and 40s is weird. And yet, we doubt there’s one who won’t tune into the first episode.
