With Fashion Week cutting into TV-viewing schedules (notice the dip in Downton Abbey tweets Sunday night?), it seems that Wednesday’s schedule was designed to soothe withdrawal symptoms. Onetime reality TV star Whitney Port showcased her new collection this morning, Bart Simpson’s smiling face was plastered on sweaters and leggings at Jeremy Scott, and small-screen stars lined the front row at shows like Nanette Lepore and Milly. We wondered: Are people like Kristin Chenoweth and Gail Simmons as addicted to TV as we are? And if they’re being honest, would they admit to watching their own shows? Here, a few fess up to loving reality TV and tuning in to themselves every week.
Kristin Chenoweth – GCB
Do you ever watch your own shows? [Shakes head] Makes me crazy! I start being very critical at the way I look and sound and act, and I can’t do it. I turn. Sometimes I’ll watch things, like, a year later, once it’s way past.
What other TV shows do you watch? I’m a little bit ashamed to say that I love The Real Housewives of any county! I love Bravo. I love Andy [Cohen]. I do enjoy The Good Wife, I enjoy Modern Family… I like smart TV, but it’s nice to just veg out, too.
Erica Dasher – Jane By Design
Do you ever watch your own show? I have. It’s really funny, the whole cast got together to watch the pilot and I watched the first 10 minutes and then I had to sit in the other room and take a breather! It’s my first job so I’m not used to watching myself on camera just yet.
What other TV shows do you watch? I watch a lot of stuff online. American Horror Story was all on Hulu, so I watched the entire season online, alone in my room in the dark being very scared. I do a lot of Modern Family and I’m a big Mad Men watcher.
Gail Simmons – Top Chef
Do you ever watch your own show? I generally don’t watch it at 10PM because they make me watch it five or six days in advance because I have to blog about it on the website. The thing about how the show is designed is we only see the chefs when they’re in front of us—we know nothing about what happens behind the scenes, in the kitchen, at the house, we only see that at the same time as our viewers do, when it’s all edited together. I never know who the villain is, because they’re always on their best behavior when they’re in front of me, so that’s always a shock.
What other TV shows do you watch? I’m a very calculated TV watcher—I record my five specific shows and watch them. Right now I’m really loving New Girl, Up All Night, 30 Rock, and Modern Family. I recently started from the beginning watching Friday Night Lights on Netflix.
India de Beaufort– Jane By Design
Do you ever watch your show? Every week I watch the show because we’re split into two worlds—when we’re filming we only get to see half the show, so we have no idea what’s going to happen!
What other shows do you watch? Right now I’m enjoying Once Upon a Time and Smash, I’m big fans of both of those.
Ramona Singer – The Real Housewives of New York City
Do you ever watch your own show? Absolutely. Sometimes they do a marathon, one show after another, and I’ll watch it and go, “Wow, this show is good! No wonder people love it.”
What other shows do you watch? My daughter gets me into Gossip Girl, Revenge, and The Vampire Diaries, [which] I really don’t have the stomach for.
